Dear Visitor to the SoCalBio Web Site,

On July 9, the Southern California Biomedical Council's Board of Directors hosted a dinner at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles including the leadership of sister California life science industry associations, BayBio and BIOCOM. This dinner provided an opportunity for the three trade associations to discuss collaborative initiatives to be pursued under the umbrella of the recently formed, California Life Science Industry Alliance.

As you may have seen in prior announcements, the California Life Science Industry Alliance was launched by SoCalBio, BIOCOM and BayBio and unveiled last month during BIO's international convention in San Diego. You can read about the formation of this alliance in a press release at:

During the July 9 dinner, participants discussed initiatives for coordination, pooling of resources and information sharing among BIOCOM, BayBio and SoCalBio in response to the increasingly uncertain economic outlook in California and beyond. It was agreed that, with a combined membership of over 1,200 companies and organizations including pioneering biotech and device firms, numerous world-class research institutions and many leading service providers, the three trade associations have both the stature and wherewithal along with allied partners to take effective action steps to:

  • Promote California's device and biotech industries and

  • Launch an aggressive educational and advocacy campaigns seeking to maintain California's life-science industry leadership position

I am extremely pleased with the progress made during a short period of time by BayBio, BIOCOM and SoCalBio in defining a common action agenda that will not only enhance the services offered by each organization to its membership, but also ensure that our State's life-science industry continue as a viable engine for job creation and overall economic development.

I will certainly keep you abreast of our progress in turning the California Life Science Industry Alliance a reality. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions.

Sincerely,

Ahmed
