Crystal Ball For Brain Cancer? New UCLA Research Predicts Which Brain Tumors Will Respond To Drug

 

 
UCLA researchers have uncovered a new way to scan brain tumors and predict which ones will be shrunk by the drug Avastin -- before the patient ever starts treatment. By linking high water movement in tumors to positive drug response, the UCLA team predicted with 70 percent accuracy which patients' tumors were the least likely to grow six months after therapy .... Learn more

UCLA Scientists Identify How Immune Cells May Help Predict Alzheimer's Risk; MP Biomedicals Granted Rights to Further Develop Screening Tool

UCLA scientists have discovered a way to measure the amount of amyloid beta that is being absorbed by immune cells in the blood. Amyloid beta forms the plaques considered the hallmark of Alzheimer's disease, and if the immune system isn't adequately clearing amyloid beta, it may indicate Alzheimer's risk, according to the researchers. The Valencia-based biotech company announced the closing of the public offering of 7,400,000 shares of its common stock. MannKind's chairman, chief executive officer and principal stockholder, Alfred E. Mann, is purchasing 1,000,000 of these shares from the underwriters.
