NEUMEDICINES RECEIVES APPROXIMATELY $5 MILLION IN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT FUNDING FROM BARDA

Neumedicines Inc. (Pasadena, CA) announced that the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) exercised the first and second milestone-based options related to the Company's existing contract with BARDA to develop Neumedicines' lead therapeutic, HemaMax, as a treatment for acute radiation exposure. The milestone-based options are valued at $4.9 million, bringing the total funding provided thus far by BARDA to $8 million. The total contract award including the base contract and options is projected to yield over $13 million for the development of HemaMax as a radiomitigator.... Read more

KYTHERA's Studies Show Reduction in Patients' Unwanted Submental Fat

The Calabasas-based Kythera presented detailed results from two double-blind Phase 2 studies, each designed to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of ATX-101, a first-in-class injectable drug for the reduction of small volumes of fat. "ATX-101 shows promise for patients who are seeking a minimally invasive treatment for unwanted localized submental fat," said Kevin C. Smith, a Canadian investigator in both Phase 2 studies. "The significant reduction we saw in submental fat for patients treated with ATX-101 illustrates its potential as a safe, simple prescription aesthetic product" ....Read more
