Edwards Lifesciences Completes Enrollment in U.S. Trial for Transcatheter Heart Valve

The multi-center PARTNER (Placement of AoRTic traNscathetER valves) Trial assigns patients into one of two arms: a "non-surgical" arm, in which the Edwards SAPIEN valve is compared to non-surgical treatments, and a "surgical" arm, in which the Edwards SAPIEN valve is compared to traditional surgical aortic valve replacement. The primary endpoint for the PARTNER Trial is based on one-year follow-up of each patient enrolled; this evaluation has been underway and is continuing ... Read more

ISTA Pharmaceuticals' Eye Drug Gets FDA Nod

Bepreve -- indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis in patients two years and above -- is expected to be available to ophthalmologists and patients in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2009. The Irvine-based Ista expects to recognize revenues from the drug from this year and is expanding its sales force for this purpose ... Read more
 
Spectrum's Zevalin OK'd for New Use
 
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's full approval allows the Irvine-based Spectrum to market Zevalin as a first-line consolidation therapy for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) patients -- a move that is expected to significantly widen the number of patients treated with the drug and breathe new life into moribund sales. Before last Friday, Zevalin's approval only covered NHL patients whose tumors continued to grow despite previous treatments.
