As part of the expansion, the Canoga Park based company is moving into a 53,000-square-foot office building in Warner Center in Woodland Hills where it will relocate its administrative department. The Monrovia-based Staar Surgical has launched its first direct-to-consumer marketing campaign for its innovative implantable contact lens. The theme for the Visian ICL will be familiar to fans of Apple's humorous "Mac vs. PC" campaign. The Visian ICL is the first implantable lens for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism that is minimally invasive and reversible. Some rivals of the Irvine-based Edwards Lifesciences Corp. are in the market for startups that could help them cut into the Irvine-based company's lead in the race for the market for heart valves that don't require major surgery for implantation. The Valencia-based medical device maker announced a voluntarily recall of its HiRes 90K cochlear implant device and is retrieving all unimplanted devices in distribution. This action is being taken in response to two confirmed instances where the product experienced a malfunction requiring explantation. These recipients experienced severe pain, overly loud sounds and/or shocking sensations at 8-10 days after initial activation of their device... Read more
