Liver Defect Likely Cause of DHA Deficiency in Alzheimer's Patients, UCI Study Finds

UC Irvine researchers have discovered that markedly depleted amounts of an omega-3 fatty acid in brain tissue samples from Alzheimer's patients may be due to the liver's inability to produce the complex fat, also contained in fish-oil supplements. Low levels of docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, have been associated with the chronic neurodegenerative disease affecting millions of Americans, but no cause had been identified... Read more

ImmunoCellular Therapeutics Announces Long-Term Disease-Free Survival Data from Phase I Study in Glioblastoma

 The Woodland Hills-vased biotechnology company announced long-term data from a Phase I clinical trial of ICT-107, the Company's lead cancer vaccine candidate for the treatment of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. The data show six out of 16 (37.6%) patients who received ICT-107 were disease-free after more than two years, with three of these patients (18.8%) remaining disease-free for more than three years. One of these patients remains disease-free after almost four years. No treatment-related serious adverse events have been observed to date... Read more
