| Funding | Two Pasadena Bioscience Companies Secure $24 Million in Equity Investment
Recent SEC filings show that two Pasadena, Calif.-based bioscience companies, Aliva Biopharmaceuticals and Materia, Inc. have secured $12.8 million and $11.7 million in institutional funding respectively. Both companies are Caltech
spinoffs. Aliva is developing animal systems for accurate prediction in human drug profiling at the pre-clinical stage with its BAC (Bacterial Artificial Chromosome) based genome engineering technology. Materia is utilizing olefin metathesis technology to develop pharmaceutical intermediaries, renewable based chemicals, specialty materials and commodity plastics.
