UCLA study shows cell-penetrating peptides for drug delivery act like a Swiss Army Knife

 

In a new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, UCLA Engineering researchers, including Gerard Wong, Timothy Deming and Daniel Kamei, identify how HIV TAT peptides can have multiple interactions with the cell membrane, the actin cytoskeleton and specific cell-surface receptors to produce multiple pathways of translocation under different conditions. New understanding gained from their study will be used to engineer new molecules that are more effective in delivering therapeutic agents... Read more

The former CEO and founder of Cougar Biotechnology, Alan Auerbach (photo right), is back in the business of developing cancer drugs. In a series of maneuvers unveiled yesterday, Auerbach's Puma Biotechnology (Westwood, CA) acquired a shell company and went public in a reverse merger, raised $55 million in a private placement, inked a deal for the rights to a late-stage cancer drug from Pfizer ($PFE) and scrapped two clinical studies as he changed the development strategy... Read more

ImmunoCellular Therapeutics Receives Notice of Allowance of Key U.S. Patent for Lead Product Candidate

 

The Company received notice that a patent titled "Cancer Vaccines and Vaccination Methods," which covers the method of delivery and the composition of the six antigens in ICT-107 that include TRP-2, MAGE-1, HER-2, IL-13 receptor a2, gp100 and AIM-2. "The notice of allowance for this patent provides key support for the strong intellectual property protection we are building for ICT-107," said John Yu, MD (photo right), one of the inventors of the patent and Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer of ImmunoCellular Therapeutics.
